When you travel the Inside Passage from Petersburg to Juneau on the MV Westward, a classic wooden motor yachts circa 1928, you're not only traveling through Alaskan wilderness, you're traveling back in time - into an aesthetic most people don't get to experience anymore. On what other journey can you sit down to dinner after a day of hiking and sea-kayaking, have the captain uncork a bottle of Ravenswood merlot, and regale you with the rich history of your vessel as well as techniques for warding off brown bears? (Boston Globe 2002).

M/V Westward was built in 1924 on Vashon Island, Washington for the Alaska Coast Hunting and Cruising Co., headed by Campbell Church of Eugene, Oregon. At 86 feet overall length, 20 foot beam, and 9 foot draft, she was designed by L. E. Geary for charter cruises to Alaska and British Columbia.

After years of service as the flagship for the Alaska Coast Fleet the Westward was activated for military service during World War II. After an amazing facelift which took the better part of twenty-five years, the Westward embarked upon a five year circumnavigation of the world.

In 1993 the Westward returned to the waters of the Pacific Northwest and Southeast Alaska, where she continues to make voyages today. Cruising aboard the Westward is an absolute treat, providing an exceptional blend of old-world elegance with world vistas.
